Buddha's Journey to Nagadeepa Sri Lanka

Based on the historical facts, the picture depicts the Buddha’s second visit to the island of Sri Lanka on a Bak full moon Poya day. The purpose of the visit was to resolve the conflict between Chulodara and Mahodara Naga kings regarding the jewelled chair at Mani Nagadeepa (Nagadeepa). This magnificent painting, created by the great artist Walimuni Solias Mendis, can be found in Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya in Sri Lanka.

Hemamala & Dhantha

Based on the historical facts, in the year 310 A.D, Prince Dantha and Princess Hemamala arrived on the island, of Sri Lanka bringing the blessings of Lord Buddha’s Sacred Tooth Relic as they were given the responsibility by King Guhasiva (father of Hemamala) in India. They are the descendants of the Brahmadatta Royal Family (relations of Siddhartha Gauthama) who were given the responsibility to protect the Sacred Tooth Relic without treasuring it, since the death of Lord Buddha around 488 B.
